I think avocado toast is absolutely brilliant... as a method for restaurants to rob you. I only care for avocados when in the form of guacamole or when they accompany certain dishes on the side. To me, the role of an avocado is to be part of the supporting cast to a meal, not be the center of attention. Avocado toast makes the avocado the lead of an underwhelming performance. Avocado toast is simply a mistake, just like any spin-off movie that puts a once enjoyable sidekick in the uncomfortable position of failing to become the main lead that they aren't.
